15 Must-See Masterpieces in Museo del Prado

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Museo del Prado is one of the most famous museums in the world. It lives up to its name by giving museum-goers the most popular and detailed works of art from Spanish and other artists. I spent 2.5 hours in this museum on a rainy Thursday afternoon. Artists set up their easels in front of paintings, and visitors are allowed to watch them recreate works of art right in front of the original. It’s pretty amazing.

Caravaggio is one of my favorite artists and has been for some time. His works along with other artists such as Goya, Velazquez, Tintoretto, and Bosch, create a calm yet visually stimulating experience in the middle of busy Madrid.

Here are 15 of my favorite must-see’s in the Museo Nacional del Prado:

  • The Garden of Earthly Delights – Bosch
  • Table of the Seven Deadly Sins – Bosch
  • David Victorius over Goliath – Caravaggio
  • Adam and Eve – Dürer
  • Self Portrait – Dürer
  • The Holy Trinity – El Greco
  • The Naked Maja – Goya
  • Saturn Devouring his Child – Goya
  • Madonna of the fish – Raphael
  • The Three Graces – Rubens
  • Children on the Beach – Sorolla
  • Christ Washing the Disciples’ Feet – Tintoretto
  • Las Meninas – Velazquez
  • The Spinners – Velazquez
  • The Surrender of Breda – Velazquez
